Vein Care and Aesthetic Laser Program

Providing Venous Treatments, Injection Therapy, and More

Venous disease is a common occurrence. The long-term effects can have serious consequences if not treated properly. Advancements in medical technology have made older, formerly extensive, surgically invasive venous surgery done in the hospital a rare occurrence. Present day office-based technology allows most venous treatments to be done in a less invasive fashion with faster recovery. Many of the venous procedures we offer are performed in less than an hour with little or no discomfort. Most patients return directly to work.

As always, the Heartcare Center physician (William D. Salerno, M.D.) provides the therapeutic treatments, not an assistant, technician, or nurse (in many other well-known facilities the physician does not provide the treatment). Dr. Salerno has traveled and trained in vascular and aesthetic centers across the United States to create what he feels is the best approach for his patients. He is one of the first 250 physicians in the United States to be certified by the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine.

In addition, we are constantly continuing to learn new techniques and accruing the latest knowledge through memberships and/or participation in educational activities from organizations such as:

  • The American College of Phlebology
  • The American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery
  • The American College of Cosmetic Surgery
  • The International Society of Endovascular Specialists
  • The International Society of Cosmetic Laser Surgeons
  • The Society for Vascular Ultrasound

Vein Treatment Before and After

Vein Treatment

Treatments of advanced varicose vein problems are usually a medical necessity and are covered by medical insurance in most cases. Varicose vein disease can cause pain, swelling, bleeding and be associated with skin color change or even skin ulceration.

Advanced varicose vein disease can be treated in the office by using several methods one of which includes a state-of-the-art laser system. By passing a laser fiber directly into the vein, laser energy is applied, effectively closing the abnormal vein. The technique is called ELVeS (Endovascular Laser Vein System) or ELVT (Endovascular Laser Vein Treatment). Thousands of patients worldwide have been successfully treated with this technology. The safety of this procedure has been demonstrated by a vast international experience. In the past, patients would need hospitalization and an extensive surgical stripping procedure to get the same results now offered via a laser-based office treatment.

Keeping with our commitment to excellence, we use one of the safest laser technologies in the office to provide treatment of smaller, cosmetically unwanted superficial veins. The laser we use on the skin is extremely safe, state of the art and safe on all skin types, white to black. The same cannot be said for other lasers or light treatments.

Veins that are not suitable to be treated by laser methods may be treated with injection therapy (sclerotherapy) or micro-surgical extraction (ambulatory phlebectomy) all of which are performed in the office. The American College of Phlebology and American Venous Forum websites have excellent patient-related information about vein treatments. All of the treatments mentioned above are discussed in further detail on these sites. Dr. Salerno is a member of the ACP, AVF, and Vein Experts.
